Reports & Evidence

Basics

What do I get with a report?

Any evidence can be downloaded six times (three times by the sender and three by the recipient). The report can be saved to your PC as often as you want. The report shows the location, date and time of the incident and the summary you provided. If you send the report, you can track when recipients access it.

Also, you can download a Validation Certificate for a report, which shows detailed information about any attached evidence that was capured with the app. Validation Certificates are free to download and to send to a third party. To find out how much evidence can be attached to a report, click on the Charges link in the footer.

What is a ‘report’?

A report shows the location, date & time of the incident and the summary you make. It includes any evidence you attach to it. You access the reports you produce in your account under Reports. If you send it, you can track when the recipient accesses it.

What does ‘secure’ a report mean?

Securing a report means it is safely stored in your account at JustEvidence.org. If you have a security box, a lockable drawer or a special place to keep important items or physical documents, that is where you secure them. Your account provides you the same peace of mind and privacy.

When I make a report, when am I charged?

If a report is chargeable, and you have credit in your account, then credit is deducted from your balance when it reaches your account. If you’re out of credit, we’ll hold it pending for 3 days during which you should top up your account with credit to send or secure the report.

How does the service validate my evidence?

The validation process is simple and secure. When you capture evidence or record a statement using the app, the location, date and time are logged at and secured on the Self Evident server. To combat any risk of someone doctoring evidence collected with the app, this information is only available from this service.

Please note, the validation service is unavailable for media imported from outside the app.

What is the standard validation?

When you capture evidence using the app, the location, date and time are logged at and secured on the Self Evident server. This information is displayed when you or a recipient view a report. Additionally, as you both view and download the same evidence while the server retains the original, its reliability should not be in dispute. It should be all you need when you send a report to a third party.

If you ever need extra validation, you can download a Validation Certificate which provides detailed data about each item of evidence.

Please note, neither the standard validation nor validation certificates are available for media imported from outside the app.

How much do reports cost?

For information on free and charged reports, click on the links Free and Charges in the footer.

How can I save a copy of my report?

Open your report, and click the download icon. This will download a PDF containing the details of your report onto your computer. To download the evidence attached to your report, open your report and click Download Evidence.

How can I download my evidence?

Open the Report which contains the evidence you would like to download. On the right side of the screen is a list of all the evidence and a button to download it to your computer. It will be zipped in one folder. You are able to download the evidence three times, and if you send the report to someone they are also able to download the evidence three times.

How will a recipient access my report?

When you send someone a report, they get an email telling them about it, with a link to a page at JustEvidence.org where they can view your report. Once they verify they are the intended recipient, they can open the report and download the evidence.

Problems Sending Reports

How do I know my report has been received?

You can track when your report was sent and when the recipient accessed it by going to the report in the Reports section of your account.

What if I do not have the credit needed to secure or send a report?

If it’s not a free report (click on the link Free in the footer) and you don’t have sufficient credit to secure or send it, we’ll hold the report as pending for three days and email to tell you. If, by the fourth day, credit hasn’t been added we will delete the report and any evidence from your account. The evidence will remain on your phone.

Why have I been charged double for my report?

The charges for regular reports are based on the report and evidence not exceeding 60MB in size. As most people won’t know the size of the reports they want or need to make, we give practical examples on the Charges link in the footer. If you are ever charged double for a report, it is because it was larger than 60MB.

How do I locate the incident on the app’s map?

This app uses standard smart phone functionality to help you locate the incident. When you find the correct location on the map, hold your finger on the precise location until a pin appears. To confirm the location, tap the green arrow. To change the location, hold your finger down on a different place.

Why hasn’t my report appeared in my account?

Please check that the sending process on the app has completed. If there was a connection failure with the internet you will need to resend it.

Why won’t my report send?

Make sure your phone has a signal or wifi to connect to the Internet. If this doesn't work, try closing the app and reopening it. Otherwise, please contact us by emailing Help@JustEvidence.org and we'll do what we can to sort out the issue promptly.

Why didn’t my report get a response?

The Access Log on your report will show if and when the recipient has accessed it. If they have not, check with the intended recipient in case your email was caught by their spam or junk mail settings and that you have their email addresss correct. If you sent the report to a wrong email address and the email bounced, you will be able to send the report again by opening it in your account.

Downloading Evidence

What if I have run out of downloads?

If you have used all your evidence downloads and need more, open the report that contains the evidence, click ‘No Downloads Remaining’, then check you want to confirm. This will get you five more downloads of your evidence and also secure your report for a further two years.

Validation

For information about Validation, please return to the main Support page and click on Validation.

Deleting

How can I delete evidence from my phone?

Go to Describe > Review, select the item of evidence you want to delete and then touch Delete.

Can I delete a report sent to the Police or Hate Crime Support?

Yes, but only after the recipient has accessed it and downloaded any evidence.

I deleted a report or piece of evidence. Can I get it back?

Before you delete anything, we encourage you to save copies. We may be able to access the evidence if we’ve retained it for validation purposes. If you find yourself in this position, please contact us by emailing Help@JustEvidence.org.

How do I delete a report from my account?

Simply go to Reports, click on the Report and then click the Delete button. It’s a good idea to first print and save a report and download and save a copy of the evidence. If you do delete a report from your account, you have agreed in the Terms that we can (but are not obliged to) keep it and any attached evidence for validation purposes for up to three years.

I accidentally deleted the app from my phone

The app is free to download, so just download it again from the app store. Any reports you have secured or sent can still be accessed online.

Privacy & Security

Can I use the app to report anonymously?

No. A report includes your name and email address so the person you send it to (be they a friend, colleague, business, journalist or the police) can get back to you. You can include your mobile (SMS) number if you wish.

Who sees my reports and my evidence?

Your account is private. If you simply secure a report, you alone see it and any attached evidence. If you send it to a colleague, friend, insurer or the police, then the recipient will see it as well. While we monitor how the App and Service are used (as set out in the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service), we do not and will not see any evidence that you secure or send.

How is my privacy protected?

Please visit Terms and go to the Privacy Policy to see how we look after your personal information. But rest assured as your account is your private space, we don’t sell your information for marketing and there are no ads.

How secure is the service?

The Information Commissioner’s Office has reviewed the service thoroughly and confirmed that it has no concerns about it being used to report crime and other sensitive issues. You can also test the security of this service yourself at https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest.
